Johanna: What was your initial thoughts when entering McKesson?
Daniel: My first moments for McKesson were very positive. I was given a warm welcome and an introduction to the company by Graham Baitson, Global Lead of Innovation Labs, before meeting the developers who were going to give me an overview of the projects they were working on. Everyone was really enthusiastic about their projects so there was a great atmosphere in the office.
Johanna: What sort of projects did the McKesson Labs team introduce you to?
Daniel: There was multiple projects that I was given an overview of. Each of the developers took the time to sit with me an explain not only what the project was about, but what it’s like working within a development team. This gave me a great insight into what it would be like to work within this environment. Over the course of the week, the Design Labs team explained their main focus areas which largely focused on how a product can reach its full potential by putting themselves in the position of a user. They introduced me to various applications and the concept of Design Thinking.
Johanna: What was it like talking to the Security Operations Team (SOC) team?
Daniel: To finish off the week, I met the Security Operations Team (SOC). We looked at various methods and tools that scammers could use to gain access to a system. I was also shown different ways to keep your personal information secure and also looked at phishing examples and remediation processes.
Johanna: What was your highlight of the week?
Daniel: The highlight of the week was when the Design Labs team set up an exercise for me and McKesson CIT Scholar Ciara Hynes called “The Gift Giving Experience” to get a better understanding of Design Thinking. It involved listening to the last time your partner has given a gift to someone and rapidly brainstorming ideas for how the gift could be improved. The crazy solutions that we came up with using the design thinking process made the exercise very exciting.
Johanna: Overall, what was your general experience during your time here?
Daniel: I thoroughly enjoyed my time at McKesson and I hope to return in the future! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.
