Training began earnestly in February at which stage we all felt confident we would complete the Marathon. Straws were drawn at the multiple meetings to discuss the strategy in which copious amounts off coffee and cake were consumed. During the “intense” training period we faced many obstacles; travel to the US, injury, “I’ll do it tomorrow” and any other excuse that could be conjured up. The only things that remained constant were the Strategic Meetings, Coffee & Cake. At the penultimate meeting as we looked around the table we realized that none of us were elite athletes and we set ourselves a goal of completing the course within 4 hrs – which we did!
We picked a local charity that provides well needed support to the local community. The Mercy University Hospital Foundation is a local charity that supports well needed cancer research and support for affected families. With extreme generosity from work colleagues, family and friends we managed to raise a total of €2,600.
