In April, the global UX Design team led by Cork-based Maébh Costello, got an unexpected and urgent request. An email from Nupura Kolwalkar, VP of Data Management at McKesson outlined a Covid-19 related business problem. McKesson needed company-wide co-ordination of data and analytics related to Covid-19 with visibility across all business units. But the tool in use was not functioning in a manner that made this easy. The request was for “HUGE and IMMEDIATE assistance from your UX Team to make this happen in the next 24-72 hours.” The impact would be global.
Maébh and Scottsdale-based Principal UX Designer Jennifer Whittingham joined the Tiger Team which had been formed on April 8. Their task was to create functionality inside the Collibra tool to organize Covid-19 Marketplace data, enhance usability and make the interface more user friendly for all business units. By April 14, a design was ready for presentation. The result: the McKesson Covid 19 Data Market Place Dashboard.
“The team at McKesson had been about to step back from the use of this tool,” says Global UX Design Labs Director Maébh Costello. “The UX team at Collibra hadn’t been able to solve their problem. We did it.” “Our work shows that it doesn’t matter where you are in the world: we can effectively work with global teams to make an impact.” The UX Design Labs team is a global, multidisciplinary team with members based in Cork, Texas and Arizona.
